Saturday morning at the sports canteen. A volunteer behind the bar, kids running in from the field, someone buying a sports drink for 2 euros. In the old days, those two euros went into the cash drawer and helped the club. Today, up to 30 cents disappears to a faceless payment provider. Even with a better deal, it’s still 15 cents. That’s 7.5% to 15% of every sale! And that is before you even count the cost of the terminals.

That volunteer behind the bar is a good friend of mine. We send each other payment requests all the time: splitting a restaurant bill, chipping in for a birthday present. He sends a link, and with one tap in my banking app I pay. Nobody takes a cent. But behind our own bar that same 2 euros suddenly costs the club 30 cents. Same friend, different rules… that made no sense to me! So in 2024 I built Usecue POS with my company: a cash register on your own phone, using those free payment requests.
